Blog Post #16

The anxieties I have going into internship are am I going to be able to keep up with the work they give me, and am I going to fit in at a corporate office. Going into any new environment you are always nervous about fitting in and what not to do. For me not ever being in a corporate setting is definitely overwhelming with nerves and self-doubt. The only way to overcome my anxieties is to face my problems head on and do the best I can at my internship.
While in my internship I plan to network as much as possible, and find a mentor to help me throughout. I plan to work on any assignment given to me to the best of my abilities in a timely manner. I want them to know me as the intern who was well-rounded and never stopped asking questions. I will stand out by seeking out feedback and converting immediately. I also want to always have a positive outlook and attitude.
After internship if I do not acquire a job I plan to go back to school at city college full to obtain a degree in CNIT or Broadcasting Journalism. I plan to still use Year Up as a resource to help me find employment after I complete the program. Through these goals I have set for myself there’s no doubt in my mind that I won’t be successful.

Bringing In the NewYear.

I am so excited that it is a new year with new opportunities. I look forward to starting my internship with a positive outlook, attitude, and experience. I was nervous at first, but I realized the only way I wouldn't be successful is if I don't try. Bringing in the new year with my family and friends was the best thing I could've done. Being surrounded by positive people is always good. It feels good to be starting a new year being able to look forward to something. I've never been so excited. Overall, last year opened the door to success for me and this new year I'm going to walk through the door. Happy new year to all.

Christams Vacation

I love the fact that I don't have to wake up early for the next week. Being able to sleep in is the best feeling in the world. Since break started I have been catching up on sleep, spend time with family and friends, and shopping. Being out of school is giving me time to relax and catch up on things I have missed.like going to the movies, mall, and hanging out. throughout my vacation I have tried to spend as much time as possible with my family, before my schedule becomes hectic again. although I enjoy vacation I am looking forward to going back to school.

Christmas Day

Dec25,2011
I have to admit Christmas doesn't excite me as  much as it used to. I woke up early to help my eleven month old nephew open his presents. I was so excited to see the look on his face when he opened his gifts. We bought him an Elmo doll that beats on drums and sings, a toy cop car that lights up and drives itself, and a play and bounce fisher price scooter. He was more interested in playing inside the cardboard boxes the gifts came in than the actual gifts. Seeing him so happy made my Christmas. After all the presents were unwrapped we went to Fair Field to spend time with the rest of my family. The house was filled with good food and holiday spirit. I must say overall  I had a wonderful Christmas.

The qualities of someone that is internship ready are eagerness, meaning they are eager to learn and accomplish anything put in front of them. You also need to be responsible, confident, timely, and accountable. These traits will show that someone is ready and acceptable to enter internship. I plan to show internship readiness in module 3 by taking initiative by volunteering for more things, and letting my leadership abilities show. I am definitely going to ask more question when things are not clear because anything I don’t needs to be understood. I plan to work on my professionalism by working on SLANT, grammar, and professional language. I want to public speak more and show how creative I can be so that I am picked for more projects. The changes that I need to make are being more assertive and stop doubting my abilities to do things. I need to change how I interact with people and being more professional. To become more organized I have gotten all new notebooks and separate folders to organize all my classes. I have to learn to not let my fear of being wrong and seeming unintelligent stops me from expressing myself. I hope to accomplish all of these things so I can be not only internship ready but internship excellent.

The best job I ever had was being a librarian’s assistant. I was able to work in my schools library throughout my junior year is high school. Some of my primary responsibilities were helping customers find books, restocking the shelves, and any filing that needed to be done. I enjoyed learning the book system and figuring out where to place specific book according to author and genre. What made my job most enjoyable was helping others and being able to read during my free time. The librarian who I assisted was very nice and always brought me snacks. What I enjoyed most was being able to plan events, meetings, and fundraisers being held in the library. Being a part of extracurricular activities kept me busy and out of trouble. The skills I learned were customer service, patience, and researching a specific topic. These skills were helpful during my time at the library and will be helpful during internship, because these skills will make me easy to work. I learned that I am willing to help others, but also that when I don’t know something I will look for the answer. The worst job I had was working at Forever21. I disliked working at forever21 because I felt that I wasn’t appreciated for the work I was doing, and it was long hours for little pay. My main job there was helping customers, hang clothes, and make sure the shelves were stocked. This was my first job but sadly it was ephemeral I only worked there for 5 months. Overall  the experience and knowledge I’ve obtained over the years will pay off in the end.

In my opinion the main aspect that connects Diego Rivera’s Frozen Assets mural to the Occupy Movement is the message. During the great depression in the 1930’s a lot of people lost their wealth and fortunes, but the people who didn’t took this as an opportunity to get wealthier at the poor’s expense. Diego was trying to capture the fact that while corporations and people were getting wealthier by influencing one another the poor were getting poorer with no one to turn too, not even the government. There was and still is a divide between the wealthy and the poor.
Today’s Occupy Movement is no different because people are standing up for the economic and social inequality. Since the Recession in 2007 people and corporations have been trying to become financially stable, but the people feel that the corporations have been doing it the wrong way. Instead of trying to spread the wealth they only help themselves. The connection in my opinion is clear because the dynamics are the same just different times. During the 30’s peoples finances were low and it was hard to afford much of anything, times were hard. The article stated that in 2007 that the richest 1% of Americas population owned 34.6% of the country’s total wealth. Times have changed but the fact still remains that the country is not financially stable. Rivera’s paintings made a great statement back then, and the people who are protesting are making an even bigger statement this time around.
